Wouldn't it be nice to be able to tell just how many companies on North American Exchanges have various financial criteria lie within certain ranges. For example, how many companies have under 500 employees or over. Take a look at this screenshot taken from ChartSmart.
Whenever you select a criteria for screening in many cases you can see a distribution chart like this one. In this one you can see that from a sample of nearly 5000 companies, under 59% have under 470 employees. You can also see the distribution of number of employees for other ranges. This is a neat feature expecially if you are going to screen on financial ratios where you don't know exactly what is an average ratio. For example, if you were going to screen on RETURN ON ASSETS what ranges would you set. Well this feature in ChartSmart, the criteria norms, gives you an idea of what to look for before you run your screen.
