Chartsmart Fundamental Charts

Friday, April 29, 2005

One of the features in ChartSmart is the ability to plot fundamentals on the charts, not just technical indicators. You can plot up to 8 years of history for items like revenues, eps, pe, inventories, current assets, long term and short term debt, liabilities and many financial ratios. This is a unique and incredibly useful tool so that you can interpolate trends in these criteria. Being able to plot these items at the bottom of charts and see how the technicals (eg price and volume) change which the fundamentals such as earnings and revenues is a feature hard to find in any other investment tool. Take a look at this example.

Norms for Screening Criteria

Thursday, April 28, 2005

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to tell just how many companies on North American Exchanges have various financial criteria lie within certain ranges. For example, how many companies have under 500 employees or over. Take a look at this screenshot taken from ChartSmart.
Whenever you select a criteria for screening in many cases you can see a distribution chart like this one. In this one you can see that from a sample of nearly 5000 companies, under 59% have under 470 employees. You can also see the distribution of number of employees for other ranges. This is a neat feature expecially if you are going to screen on financial ratios where you don't know exactly what is an average ratio. For example, if you were going to screen on RETURN ON ASSETS what ranges would you set. Well this feature in ChartSmart, the criteria norms, gives you an idea of what to look for before you run your screen.

Bollinger Bands

A feature found in Chartsmart that is totally unique is that you can specify where the closing price is relative to any area between or outside of the 20 or 10 day bollinger bands. For example, you can specify to just screen for stocks where the current price is at least 10% below the upper band but over 70% above the lower band where the distance between the 2 bands is 100%. This allows the user tremendous flexibility in setting screens. Another example would be that one might want the current price to be at least 4% above the upper Bollinger Band. Most software will only allow you to screen relative to the upper and lower Bollinger Band but Chartsmart allows you to specify precisely where where you want the close to be relative to the bollinger bands.

ChartSmart Professional

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

ChartSmart Professional, a part of our most recent version which you can download, version 3.1, includes a feature you will not find in any other investment software tool on the web. Most screening tools will only allow you to screen for an indicators value on the most recent day. For example, you can screen for stocks with a relative strength index over 70. Our pro version allows you to not only do this but screen on the trend of the indicator. For example you could say the RSI value is over 70 today but also that the RSI was under 50 5 days ago and under 40 10 days ago. Imagine the flexibility here being able to screen on the direction of any indicator. This allows you to be so much more precise with your screens. This feature takes your screening abilities for all indicators from a 2 dimensional to a 3 dimensional level. Use it on Moving Averages, stochastics, bollinger bands, ADX and many more indicators. To learn more start your 30 day trial to Chartsmart and also view some historical variable examples.
