ChartSmart Fundamentals Summary

When you are looking at any chart in ChartSmart, if there is fundamentals information, not only can you see it on the bottom of the chart, but you can also see it by clicking on the pd5 button. A screen like this is displayed summarizing the last 5 years or 5 quarters fundamentals information corresponding to the fundamentals displayed on the bottom of the charts.

One of the hidden features in ChartSmart is the trendline breakout screen. In this case one can draw trendlines on any number of charts, usually daily charts. If you draw the trendline above a declining chart, you might want to know when the chart breaks above the trendline. To do this simply draw the trendline then in the annotations menu select to screen stocks breaking above a trendline and then you can view the charts. In the ChartSmart filter menu there are now literally hundreds of fundamental screens available. This screen shot shows a few of them. These include balance sheet items such as inventories, assets, liabilities, equity, debt and so on. In addition there are many ratios and important figures like book value and pe ratios. Other examples are number of employees in the company and % of institutional ownership. For example, select companies with constant dividend and earnings growth over the last 3 years. There are 1000's of screening options which can be combined with your technical screens.

ChartSmart allows diverse sector screening

ChartSmart allows you to do some very detailed sector screening. In this screen you can see the type of screening that is possible. Actually, there are over 200 categories in which companies are classified so that you can do detailed searches on companies in various industries and sectors. This data is updated regularly. As an example you might select all companies that are in Computer Hardware, and Software that are on the Nasdaq exchange.

ChartSmart includes the Securities web page

Another neat feature in the latest version of ChartSmart is that we include a database of all the web pages for companies on the US and Cdn Exchanges. This option is under [Tools]. If you are on line simply click on this option to call up the web page for the company. This enables you to access a wealth of information pertaining to the company without having to do any other searches to determine the web page for the company. The menu looks like this.

Technical Indicator Bars in Chartsmart.

UP TO 4 TECHNICAL INDICATOR BARS (NEW) - ChartSmart allows you to place up to 3 tiers of indicator bars under a chart plus you can use the volume scale as an additional tier. With 4 bars this gives ample room to display all your indicators. When you click anywhere on the chart, as in the example on the right, a red hairline will appear and a grey box is displayed on the upper left with data on all the indicators that you are using, including the fundamentals for the specific day you have clicked on the chart. TSX Venture Companies

One of the neat features of ChartSmart is that you can screen out TSX Venture companies based on news release content. An interesting screen is to select TSX Venture companies trading near year lows and also having the words private placement or options in their news releases. Often insiders take the opportunity to issue low priced shares to themselves when the price of the stock is low, say 10 or 15 cents a share. If you see large private placements and options being issued to insiders this might be a clue they are planning on doing positive things with the stock in the future. The ADX indicator by Wilder is a complicated indicator included in ChartSmart. It often requires not only a specific value but also to specify the trend of the ADX. ChartSmart Pro allows you to specify the previous ADX, +DI and -DI so that you can actually specify the trend in these indicators. For example, one way one might use the ADX is:

When ADX rises above both +DI and -DI it may indicate that the market is becoming overheated and similarly one might take profits when ADX turns downwards from above +DI and -DI. You may wish to go on the web and search on how to use the ADX indicator. The neat thing is that with ChartSmart you can specify the direction of the ADX for screening purposes, unlike any other software.

Often a low stochastics like under 20 can indicate a stock is undersold or a high one over 80 can indicate it is over bought. The are many investment tools that will allow you to screen for stochastics under 20 or over 80 but the neat thing about ChartSmart Pro is that you can also specify the trend of the stochastics. For example, you can specify to screen stocks with a stochastics under 20 but at the same time over 40 one day ago and over 60 2 days ago, or however you might want to customize. This feature, unique to Chartsmart, allows you to screen on not only the stochastic value but the rate of change of the stochastic over any previous period. A neat feature.
