If for some reason you need to reinstall ChartSmart you may need to backup your custom lists. This includes portfolios, watch lists, stocks with memos, and the filter lists you have created. The backup will also save your indicator settings. The files that contain your backup are in the folder you installed chartsmart and they are:
dayfilt.dbf
dayfilt.fpt
emailalerts.dbf
fgroups.dbf
fgroups.fpt
memdata.dbf
memdata.fpt
memos.dbf
memos.fpt
private1.dbf
private1.fpt
tools.dbf
tools.fpt
It is good practice to backup your data even if you don't have a problem. This can be done if you go into ChartSmart and click on MAINTENANCE, then on BACKING UP YOUR CUSTOM DATA. You will see a menu. The top 2 buttons allow you to save your backup files to a floppy disk if you have one, or to a custom drive. Normally users backup to a folder on the hard drive using the BACKUP TO CUSTOM DRIVE BUTTON. This can by creating a blank folder on your hard drive anywhere you like. Then click on BACKUP FILES TO CUSTOM DRIVE. Double click on the c: do see all the folders then select the folders you want to backup to. Then if you have a problem you can reinstall ChartSmart by downloading the full version from the web. Once installed, go to the same menu and click on RESTORE FILES FROM CUSTOM DRIVE. Find the drive then restore it and all your lists should be back.
Note that if you are unable to get into ChartSmart you can still go to windows explorer and copy the above files to a folder. Be sure ChartSmart is close first. Then you can reinstall ChartSmart by downloading the full version and copy the files you saved in the folder to the folder where ChartSmart is installed and that should restore your lists as well. You will likely only need to do this manual option if you are unable to get into ChartSmart to use the backup menu as mentioned above.
